Weekly entry: Book of Psalms
            This week : Psalm 2

What would you have me do?

Many attempts have been made to group psalms according to themes. One possible grouping is praise psalms, wisdom psalms,
royal psalms, thanksgiving psalms, and
a lament psalms. Psalm 2 is classified as
a royal psalm.

Royal pslams concern the king. Starting
with God promise that a "King of kings
would come David's line, the king became
more than a political figure. He became a
religious figure as well.

T
he coronation of a new king made him
God's son in a special sense. Each new
king was seen as a step toward the King
of kings, the promised Messiah, Jesus the
Son of God. Thus the newly-crowned king
says,

"I will announce what the Lord has
declared. He said to me: You are my son;
today I have become your father." Psalm 2:7

Saint Paul applies the these words to
Jesus. Acts 13:32-33  Jesus is the King of
kings toward whom all of Israel's other
kings  ponted, He is God's true Son."
